At Loco2 we believe in price transparency. We use real data from Loco2 searches to estimate the cheapest fares you should be able to find for your journey.

The cheapest price is the lowest fare we've ever found for this journey. These prices can usually be found by searching when booking opens but they vary due to availability, which depends on factors like the day of the week or time of year.

More popular journeys include 30 day advance and 7 day advance prices. These are updated every two weeks using prices we've found by searching exactly 7 or 30 days from the most recent Thursday (we picked Thursday because this is when average prices are usually found).

30 day and 7 day prices fluctuate based on demand and availability at the time of search. For example, the 7-day price in summer is likely to be more expensive than the same journey in winter.

Prices are sourced in GBP and converted to other currencies using the daily market exchange rate.

  1. The train from Perpignan to Barcelona is very fast, thanks to a new high-speed rail route which dives under the Pyrenees to link France and Spain. Both Spanish AVE and French TGV trains serve this cross-border route, taking between 80 and 90 mins for the 177-km journey. For the best views of the Pyrenees, sit on the right side of the train.

    If you prefer slow trains, you can also travel from Perpignan to Barcelona via the old line. Running south from Perpignan, this route skirts the beautiful Côte Vermeille (Vermillion Coast). There are half a dozen daily departures, each involving a change of train at Portbou. Allow four hours to travel right through to Barcelona.

    Train tickets for the Perpignan to Barcelona route usually go on sale 120 days before travel. Book early for the cheapest tickets. Note that the Spanish rail operator releases tickets in batches; if you're having trouble finding trains, contact us and we'll email you as soon as booking opens.

    Direct high-speed TGV or AVE trains from Perpignan for Barcelona depart five to seven times each day (depending on season). These services run to Barcelona Sants station. The route follows a new high-speed line south from Perpignan which cuts under the Pyrenees. Within 15 mins of leaving Perpignan, you’ll already be in Spain. All services on this route make just two intermediate stops, at Figueres and at Girona.
