It is a very easy journey by train from Paris to La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast of France. It’s a journey which is hugely popular with Parisiennes who in mid-summer swap city life for a spell by the sea.
Bookings for the journey from Paris to La Rochelle normally open three months prior to the date of travel. However, at certain times of the year, Loco2 may be able to sell tickets for this route as long as four months in advance. It pays to book early if you are keen to get the best fares.
At times when there is no convenient TGV direct from Paris to La Rochelle, additional connections are possible with an extra change of trains at Poitiers, but this is often more expensive than the direct train.

There are six to nine high-speed TGVs each day from Paris Montparnasse to La Rochelle. The train journey starts with an impressive high-speed dash, with most trains covering the first 218 km in less than an hour. Thereafter the pace slows, as the train follows traditional railway lines south-west via Poitiers to the coast.
Most trains from Paris to La Rochelle take just 3 hrs 15 mins for the 468-kilometre journey. Services on this route make between three and five intermediate stops on the journey. These TGV services all run to la Rochelle Ville station, just a 12-minute walk from the Vieux Port in the heart of La Rochelle.
