At Loco2 we believe in price transparency. We use real data from Loco2 searches to estimate the cheapest fares you should be able to find for your journey.

The cheapest price is the lowest fare we've ever found for this journey. These prices can usually be found by searching when booking opens but they vary due to availability, which depends on factors like the day of the week or time of year.

More popular journeys include 30 day advance and 7 day advance prices. These are updated every two weeks using prices we've found by searching exactly 7 or 30 days from the most recent Thursday (we picked Thursday because this is when average prices are usually found).

30 day and 7 day prices fluctuate based on demand and availability at the time of search. For example, the 7-day price in summer is likely to be more expensive than the same journey in winter.

Prices are sourced in GBP and converted to other currencies using the daily market exchange rate.

  1. The new direct train from Madrid to Marseille has given a boost to business and leisure travel between the two cities. If the timings of the once-daily direct train do not suit your schedule there are further options which normally require a change of train at both Barcelona Sants and Narbonne, adding in total about an hour to the overall journey time.

    The direct service to Marseille from Madrid is run by Spanish rail operator RENFE, using high-speed AVE trains. The first part of the journey is a fast dash from Madrid through Barcelona to Perpignan in France. Thereafter the pace slows as the train cruises through Languedoc to reach Marseille.

    Bookings for this route normally open three months in advance of travel. Book early for the cheapest fares.

    The journey from Madrid to Marseille starts at Puerta de Atocha station in the Spanish capital. The once-daily direct AVE service makes 11 intermediate stops, taking 7 hrs 50 mins for the journey to Marseille. There is much good scenery on this route, with some particularly fine views of the Languedoc coast on the stretch between Perpignan and Montpellier. Arrival in Marseille is at St-Charles station, from where it is just a 10-minute walk through the Quartier Belsunce to the old port.
