It is very easy to travel by train from London to Liverpool. Virgin Trains offer an hourly service between the two cities. It’s an interesting journey that cuts across the English Midlands without actually passing through major cities like Birmingham.
Bookings for your journey generally open about 10 to 12 weeks prior to travel. If you are keen to get a bargain fare, that’s the time to book. If you can opt for off-peak trains, you may still pick up cheap fares quite close to your travel date.
Another rail operator, London Midland, offer an alternative route to Liverpool, usually requiring at least one change of train along the way. But it is so slow, that we don’t offer that option on Loco2.
London to Liverpool
Join the Pendolino train at London’s Euston station for the 312-km journey to Liverpool. Most trains on this route makes three or four intermediate stops and take about 2 hrs 15 mins for the journey. About twenty minutes before reaching Liverpool, all trains stop at Runcorn and then cross the Mersey – that’s the river which has shaped the history and image of Liverpool. Your journey ends at Lime Street station in the heart of the Merseyside city.
