It is just a short trip on a regional train from Bologna to Ravenna. Local trains serve this route about 20 times each day. The railway follows a dead-straight course from Bologna to Imola, the autostrade to the left of the train and (on a clear day) the Apennine Mountains visible on the right. Beyond Imola, the train to Ravenna leaves the main line and runs north-east to Ravenna. No prizes for stunning scenery on this short journey, but it’s a nice break from high-speed trains.
Bookings for the journey from Bologna to Ravenna open two months in advance. However, the fare on this route is fixed and does not increase closer to the date of travel. Thus you won't find cheaper tickets by booking early.
Bologna to Ravenna
This route from Bologna to Ravenna is served by direct regional trains. The fastest take one hour and make just two stops along the way – at Imola and Lugo. Most trains are slower, however. They make about a dozen stops and take around 1 hr 20 mins for the journey. All trains to Ravenna leave from Centrale station in Bologna, which has good connections with high-speed services from Rome, Milan, Venice and many other Italian cities.
