Travelling by train from Barcelona to Pamplona is very easy. Direct trains take just under 4 hrs for the 500-km journey. The route is served by comfortable Alvia trains.
The journey falls neatly into two parts. For the first 2 hrs, the train from Barcelona to Pamplona follows the new high-speed line towards Madrid. The second half of the journey is on a much older, and therefore slower, line which first follows the Ebro Valley upstream before cutting north through the hills to Pamplona.
Tickets generally go on sale just under two months prior to travel, but because the Spanish rail operator often releases tickets in batches, this can vary. If you are looking for cheap tickets, it's wise to book when tickets are first released for sale. Therefore, if you're having trouble finding trains, contact us and we'll email you when booking opens.
