Passenger age requirements
Different countries have different classifications for "Child" and "Youth" as per the table below. This is why we ask you to enter the age of each child passenger when you search.
|United Kingdom||5 - 15||16 - 25|
|France (including Eurostar), Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania||4 - 11||12 - 25|
|Spain||4 - 13||14 - 25|
|Germany||6 - 14||15 - 25|
|Belgium, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Slovenia||6 - 11||12 - 25|
|Hungary||6 - 13||14 - 25|
|Austria, Denmark, Switzerland||6 - 15||16 - 25|
|Finland||6 - 16||17 - 25|
Children younger than the age specified in the table above may travel
for free if they share a seat/bed with the adult they are travelling with.
By default we won't search for tickets for child passengers if they may
travel for free. If you want to reserve a seat for child passengers
please enter 6 as the age of the child.
In Spain, children who travel for free on AVE, Long Distance and Avant trains must have a 'Free child ticket'. These are not included and can be obtained from Renfe at the station.
